Vertically Challenged

While doing research for the book, I’ve been spending a lot of time looking through the stacks at Davis Library at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and I’ve found a few pretty nice resources. I’ve also run into a bit of a stumbling block: A lot of the older books were written in the old style — vertically and from right to left. I can handle either one of those, but together they are making it a bit difficult for me to keep my place in the passages (it also doesn’t help that I’m at less than a fifth-grade level when it comes to reading Chinese). It’s something I’m going to have to fight through, though, as there are some nice nuggets of information in these books.
